Diver's Notes

FOURTH DIVE
We head our dive briefing at 630p for our night dive taking place at 7pm at Sandra’s again on Norman Reef. Since none of my dive group had any certifications or experience doing night dives we were assigned a dive guide who was an older man named Matt. We got suited up and were given a torch for our experience with an extra in our BC. I dived in at 720p with Louise and the rest of the group. I had a bottom time of 40 minutes and came out of the water at 812p having a maximum depth of 15 meters.

The night dive was fascinating though not for what I expected. I had dove on the dark before back in February with Mark and felt comfortable with the experience so being in the dark wasn’t a big deal for me. I was, however, fascinated by all the paligic fish in the water darting constantly around us. Though the captain had turned the bow and stern lights on underwater and we saw plenty of sharks roaming around, I didn’t see any while i was in the water. It was fun swimming around in the dark though I didn’t use my torch much as I was able to see from everyone else’s torchlight.

Louise came up to me during the dive directing my attention to her dive camera. I couldn’t understand what she was saying and that was the last I saw of her during the dive. Her dive casing had filled with water and she was getting upset with that and surfaced. She hailed the boat to come get her, which it did, and they chastised her for calling them saying she could have swam back to the boat on her own power. It was a clear example of the danger that an inexperienced person can put you in though she didn’t know what she was doing. Her new Go Pro camera was out for the rest of the trip to her great disappointment.

Kiki was snorkeling each time that I dove. She was not, however, allowed to snorkel at night though they did let her hang off the back of the boat with her head in the water so she could see what we were doing as well as the larger fish. I hadn’t seen her most of the day except for the lunch and dinner times as we were involved in different activities. I was proud of her though as she was enthusiastic about her diving experiences.
