Diver's Notes

Captain Kurlz

We been new with the captain maneuver the boat over to a new location called Captain kurlz. The dive briefing was done quite well. Unfortunately, during the 10 minutes pre-diver morning when I sat down with my equipment I started getting horrifically sick again so I pivoted around and threw up over the side of the boat once more. After that episode was over I felt much better and they called time to dive, dive, dive just as I was getting the last of my equipment on and I was in the water within 15 seconds. The water temps were at 78° so I did not think I was going to get that cold but, because I was only wearing my Shorty, I started feeling a chill about 15 minutes into the dive. The dive was at a slightly shower at 65 feet and my bottom time request by the dive captain was 30 minutes though the nitrox air divers were given 50 minutes. I found at the bottom to be quite beautiful yet again though not as spectacular as the buffs Bluffs it was definitely beautiful and full of life again. The current there felt like it was a little heavier though I started ascending at 20 minutes as I was feeling a little too cold to continue on. I joined a couple of other divers while ascending.

As stated in jupiterdivecenter.com:
Captain Kurl’sJupiter Dive Reef, Captain Kurls Local Reefs
One of our shallower Local Reefs at between 58′ and 75′, Captain Kurl’s gives one the impression of drifting over a series of aquariums. The ledge forms a series of cul-de-sacs, each one with myriad fish and critters. Goliath groupers may be seen at the deep part of the ledge while green morays generally stay closer to the top. Loggerhead, green, and hawksbill turtles can be found both on top of the ledge or napping at the bottom. Nurse sharks, some of them huge, nestle under the ledge. An occasional reef shark prefers to cruise the top into the current. Blue, queen, gray, and French Angelfish, along with their rock beauty cousins give the top of the reef their vibrant colors. Reef, four-eye, and Spotfin Butterfly fishes (usually in pairs) populate the reef for its entirety. As a second dive in a two-tank trip, Captain Kurl’s leaves the diver with a renewed awe in the miracles of marine life.
