Diver's Notes

Very happy to get out on this beautiful weekend. Been such a good few weeks of weather and we all crossed our fingers that the north easterly winds would not affect our plans.

One of the main objectives of the weekend was to get my buoyancy right in the new suit and feel happy with the new mounting is my stage..... Sunday night and was feeling like this was truly achieved.

We also dived two very nice submarine wrecks. The first being the Sidon.

Interesting, if not sad, story about its demise but certainly adding an air of intrigue. And also since it had not been wrecked externally was a very intact wreck sat on a rocky bottom. This was made even better by the 10m viz we had.

Lots of dead men's fingers and yellow, red and pink jewel anemones over the wreck and surrounding stones. Some huge Pollack seem to hang around the wreck, especially under the rear hydrofoils. As usual a large number of bib also around the wreck....we could see why it is an anglers favorite.

After descending onto the conning tower we worked our way stern along the port side. Did a full loop at seabed level before working up onto the top. One of the stand out views from the wreck is looking down the very sharp bow, which seems a very different design to the bulbous noses on modern subs.

Lots of structure up on the top still around the conning tower, gun placement and other various runners/pipes.

Spotted quite a few congers hidden in various tubes and pipes including one in a port torpedo tube (wreck lists a bit too starboard).

As the profile shows we did about 25 mins bottom time followed by around another 25 deco interspersed with a deep stop. Felt a bit light on the dive so added another kilo for the afternoon.

Lovely dive overall on a great wreck in brilliant viz!
