Diver's Notes

Luckily the wind had dropped sufficiently that we could dive at the blue hole this morning. So we set off early before the other groups and got down to djwera for about 8.15. Meant we didn't see any other divers in the water for the whole dive! Had to have a good look around at the entry points because not too obvious or easy to enter.

Dropping into the blue hole we descend down and swam into the cave. I held Nessa's hand so she wouldn't be scared this time. Beautiful view back out towards the entrance which I wish I could have captured in photos.

Out of the blue hole and we made our way down the south wall of the inlet. This meant finning over and around massive boulders. Few centipedes and various fish around. In particular we found a big fish that looked like a jack (see photos). Nessa also managed to spot one of the nudibranches with Dalmatian spots that Tom had told us about.

Once we'd reached the crack we started to make our way north across the boulders. This took us over to the base of the outer wall of the Azure window (the big arch !). Bit of a current here but we made our way up from about 30m until we had reached the ledge at 17m. This was a nice grassy patch which led back to another peak. All of the walls and pinnacles here are so impressive and make you spend a lot of time feeling quite small.

Was amazed to see the huge white rocks underneath the arch lined up like a road. I guess these must have been the rocks that have fallen off from the window over time.

Followed the wall back across boulders to the blue window where we then spent loads of time doing safety stops liking at all the nice red coral, tiny little anemones and little creatures on the archway. We spent a bit of time under the arch blowing bubbles up... This seemed to trigger a load of dead jelly fish or something to fall down on us.... yucky!

Lovely dive (despite the trek to get to the water) and so much more special to have this incredibly famous and beautiful site to ourselves.
