Diver's Notes

First dive for us on our own. Took off in the Jeep and over to this pretty remote part of the island.... hairy driving aside we arrived safely and parked up next to the rather busy little cafe down on the site. We were a little worried about leaving the car and all our stuff but all turned out fine in the end.

Only a shallow dive but took in some really cool bits. Lots of white sand throughout this inlet and buried within were loads of turbot and plaice. These were great fun to watch as they seem to hang out in little gangs with the seabream which were snuffling around in the sand. We also spent quite a bit of time giggling at the goatfish and their continual trawling through the sand looking for food.

Quite early in the dive we spotted an octopus wedged under a large rock, sadly (for us) he was very well covered and had hold of a few smaller stones which he covered himself up with once we got too close.... cool to see the tentacle at least!

So we followed the right hand side of the inlet along until we reached the cave at about 10m depth. Worked our way inside which gradually got narrower and darker as we went. Nessie got a little bit scared so we turned back early. But came out to see some gorgeous coloured light filtering in through the mouth of the cave. Took a load of snaps which I hope come out well.

By this time we had already been in the water for over 30 minutes but since it was a shallow dive we continued on to the second cave, in about 15m. This was not quite as long but once again gave some lovely lighting.... must be a photographers paradise! Tried to urge Ness up into the air pocket but she didn't fancy it.

So we started making our way back around 45mins, crossing the inlet to the other side to one we had come out on. Obviously a very similar topology and set of marine life but was nice to work back into the shallows and warmer water.

Back safely onshore to find the car and all our belongings were still safe.... an added bonus!!
