Diver's Notes

Ghasri Valley and Cathedral Cave

98 steps down to this secluded little beach was then followed by a good 15 minutes surface swim to end of a little valley. At the end of the valley we descended to a drop off which took us to a boulder path leading up to the cave. As we came close we saw a group of divers led by Tom coming out of the cave, which confirmed we were on the right track.

Making our way inside the huge cave we popped up at the surface to be greeted by a majestic cave, which could resemble a cathedral dome (hence the name). The light in the cave was just fantastic and I think it will be very difficult to describe the view to another who has not been in the cave. Needless to say, the vivid blue and echo-y ceiling made this one of the most special places I’ve been.

Made our way back out of the cave and into the open sea again which then lead us up into the valley. Was a very shallow seabed leading back into shore but some interesting little fishes, another tiny moray eel and lots and lots of jellyfish.

Back on land we marvelled at the balanced pebbles on the beach before trekking back up the 98 steps fully kitted up.... if the dive had made us cold we certainly were warm when we reached the jeep!

Wonderful dive and so worth the mountaineering to reach it!
