Diver's Notes

This was a really cool dive but required a long surface swim through lots of jellyfish again.... which Nessa was a little freaked out about! Needless to say we managed to get out to the correct place on the reef before descending. This made life easy when we came to navigating around the horseshoe shaped reef structure to find the double arch. This is an amazingly formed structure underwater which now has lots of coral, anemones and sponges growing on all sides.

We swam around to it, under the bottom arch and through the middle. Apparently there is an octopus that lives under the bottom arch but we didn’t see it sadly. Out from the arch we moved back around the shape of the reef and up onto the grassy ledge to make our way back to the exit point. Nessa’s navigation was very good underwater keeping us pretty much exactly on a southerly direction. We did however arrive back at the point of the rocks and then picked the wrong way at first to exit the water.

Was corrected by a short swim though that took us to the Washing Machine. Bizarre structures underwater here and seems to make the swell here a bit troublesome (hence it’s name). Found a temporary traffic light at the site but it was so choppy that I decided not to burden myself on exit with carrying it out. Eventually got out and traversed the salt pans back to the Jeep- feeling very warm by the time we got there!
