Diver's Notes

After swimming about on the surface (aka floating about on the surface), we decided to descend and head out. I was a little concerned that I wouldn't have enough air, but as shallow as we were (still above 20' thermocline), I figured I could surface and swim out if I needed to do so.

My battery held (it was fresh), but my card was filled up, so I couldn't take any video on the way back. I'm not sure when it gave out, but hopefully, I got a few good shots of the "grotto", which we affectionately named our corner of the quarry. Clear water, smooth granite walls with rusty bands where there is obviously perennial run-off, and trees sprouting from several layers of soil that has somehow made its way into the rock crevices. A sycamore and a lot of sourwood (with the leaves turning, I suppose from the lack of sunlight in that corner of the lake).

Not much different on the swim out than in. I was a little more conscientious of my breathing just because I wanted to make it out with at least 500 psi to spare. I lost my reg once, from readjusting the mouthpiece. But I made it out at 654, and with nearly the same time this dive as the one we took on our way out.

Great set of dives. I wanted to do one long one, but I'm glad we surfaced and took the opportunity to explore the walls from above the water this time! 49 dives and still learning...
