Diver's Notes

We ate ice cream and snacked on fruit Jen brought from home while waiting on our tank refills. Jen was just warming up from our first dive and decided to stay topside for our second. After a while, James, Tracy and I donned our equipment and performed a giant stride off the pier. Our plan was to execute an out-and-back swim along the wall to our west. We made it half way to the north wall, just beyond the "Dive Shop Van", following a rope until it dipped below the thermocline and nearly out-of-site. At this point, we turned and headed back toward the pier, retracing our route. We came along a floating pipe teathered to the floor, which James and I swam through before continuing on toward the pier. Most of the dive had been in the shadow of the wall as the sun began to dip in the late afternoon, deminishing the visibility somewhat.

We were near our exit point and I was about to signal to the others asking if they wanted to drop over the wall when I noticed Tracy heading away from the pier with James following. We came across a pontoon platform resting on the floor when Tracy suddenlty stopped, turned and motioned that she was looking for the exit and was lost. James and I pointed toward the exit point and we finned back, resurfacing near the ladder where we had come from moments before, just shy of an hour. We all had a good laugh about the ordeal as we made our way back to load up and head to Raleigh. It was great fun diving with friends at a new place, and not so far away. Lake Phoenix is a good remedy for getting under water without spending a lot of effort!
