Diver's Notes

Lauryn had brought me a Nitrox bottle from the shop, and after lunch (Wegman's meatball subs!) I decided to take advantage of it. This solo dive was much like the first one, but in reverse. From the entrance, I shot a bearing northwest to the rock crusher, then followed the line to the bus, the deep airplane, and onward to the sailboat. I noticed another line running across near the end of the anchor line, and I'm not certain where it goes. (Possibly right to the glass bottomed boat, and left to the airplane.) I may check it out next time. I followed the line back to the shallow airplane and turned toward the bus, finned by the training platforms, where a group appeared to be working on a search and recovery skill, then back to the bus. I continued on over the first culvert before turning back and passing through it. At the bus, I turned and swam down the line to the rock crusher, headed southeast and emerged back at the entrance. I never hit a thermocline of the first dive, but this time I hit it near the rock crusher on my way out. I just skimmed it around 33 feet, but didn't stay in long enough for a reading.

The fins worked well, as did my new Hydros. For the latter, however, I'm not certain it is a great deal better than my Knighthawk. I may return it to the shop and order a ScubaPro S-Tek system.

A final note: I used six pounds weight, thinking I may need extra due to the more bouyant AL 80's I was diving with, but it turned out I was a bit too heavy still. I should dive without weight next time, or no more than a couple of pounds, anyway.
