Diver's Notes

After I aborted my first dive yesterday, I was eager to jump in today. (Last dive I swallowed a lot of water on entry, turned out to be the BCD being over-inflated by the crew--didn't know they did that--and when I went in, the force of the BCD buoyancy pulled the reg from my mouth.)

Jen had injured her foot yesterday, so I didn't have my "regular" dive buddy. Went in with Billy and the rest of the gang.

First noticed the reef was a lot different here than in the keys. The shapes were primarily mounds of coral, with sand between and sloped up around them. The coral formations thickened as we approached the island that was just a football field or so away from our entry point.

Shortly into the dive, I saw a flounder--the first I've seen while diving! I think it was a peacock flounder, but not sure. Funny thing is I had just mentioned to Joseph that I had never seen one!

There was a lot of the typical reef fish I've seen in the keys--parrotfish, chromis, etc. I saw a nice sized trumpet fish--it's hard to get a good pic of those things. I also saw a leopard flatworm for the first time.

Vis was great, and the dive was short by sweet. It was nice to get back in the water after being out for several months, and especially after that first jump-in yesterday!
