Diver's Notes

Captain Terry decided to stay on the Caribsea for another attempt at finding sharks. Besides, the other nearby sites would likely be worse with vis and/or current...

Good idea! Our ship mate had gone down between our dives and ran a new line extending from the end of the first to the bow of the ship. There, he found several sand tigers in the bottom of the wreck. That's where we decided to head! Eric and I were the first in and headed straight for the bow, following the guide line laid for us.

Near the bow, we looked down and saw several sand tigers circling in and out of the wreckage. We spent the better part of the dive taking video of these sharks, though it was tough to get good shots other than from above as they stayed close to the bottom, and the camera tended to focus on the schools of baitfish.

In addition to the sharks, another diver found a beautiful bluish-black nudibranch with a bright yellow fringe, which I later identified as a Regal Sea Goddes (Felimare picta). I also found two starfish near the wreck. On the way out, I saw a large flounder; on the way back, I almost touched one on accident! As I was picking up a shell, he lifted up about an inch from my finger and scurried over 2 or 3 feet! I never saw him until he moved! Great camouflage.

On the ascent, we were accompanied by several large barracuda, some likely measuring around 4' in length.
