Diver's Notes

I had not brought a second tank, thinking Billy would have somes spares (he didn't) or I could just the second off of my 100cf (I could have, but barely). Since I was having some issues with the AI on my computer, I decided to make a run for Gypsy to pick up an SPG and another tank while I was there. Billy also needed some tongs and serving utensils, so I headed out for an hour-long surface interval. Returning, I quickly changed out my cylinders, donned my wetsuit, and returned to the cold water. We decided to stay in the shallower area for our second dive, swimming to the airplane, bream beds, and back along the road to the bus where I would help Andrew practice his buoyancy control. From there we would swim back the same route, or take the shortcut back to the entrance off the starboard side of the bus if we were running short on time or getting too cold (or bored). I figured 30-45 minutes would bring us fully around, and back just in time for lunch.

I meant to add weight since I was diving with an AL80, but forgot to do so. It didn't matter: my buoyancy was fine and I had no problem descending. We conducted the dive plan as described above, stopping a moment at the basketball court to try our hand at some hoops. I did take the shortcut back from the bus, signalling Andrew to "watch me, follow close" just in case! We swam over the yellow submarine on our way out, and ascended the bank just left of the big underwater rock, where we surfaced and walked out. A great dive!

The visibility on both dives was 10-15 feet, worse in areas kicked up by divers and near the line to the yacht where the wall cast a shadow. The second dive was warmer due to us staying above the thermocline for the most part, dipping slightly during our swim back from the bus. My AI worked fine, so I'm not sure what caused the issue on the first dive. But I like having the SPG for backup, and plan to get one for Jen as well.
