Diver's Notes

Two weeks shy of 7 months without diving, I kicked off 2017 season with a trip to Key Largo. Here I would pass a new milestone: my 100th dive!

USCG Duane

~1/2 knott current down to about 40’, lighter after that.
Visibility was 80'+, the clearest I have ever seen on the Duane.

Down line first, waited for Jen last b/c she had problems clearing her ears. Once down, she almost immediately started having problems with her computer (only read PSI intermittently). After not being able to fix it and last ready at 1300, decided to resurface. Debriefing we were told to drift back up and come up the stack line, because only two mooring balls were present. Turned out the stack line was broken at about 48’ depth. Went back down to tell Joseph, then back up to Jen. We let go and ascended to 15’ while drifting. Ran straight into the stern mooring line! Pretty lucky that we didn’t have to float around waiting to be picked up. Very challenging dive for all that went wrong, but we did what was to be done and made it back safe. Note: the water was clear enough to see the boat was not on the line, but we knew that Steve would be moving over that way and figured we were coming up early and thus have to hang out before he got over there (which was part of the debriefing).
