Diver's Notes

Patrick and I met at the quarry this morning at 09:00. My goal this morning was to check my weight wearing a standard 80cf tank, and work on my SAC rate. We decided to take a leisurely swim along the south wall (east from the entrance). We both had around 2800 PSI to start, so decided to swim out until one of us reached 1700 and turn back. We would then hang out near the entrance until we hit 60 minutes or low air, whichever came first. I entered the water with no added weight, and noticed I had a little trouble getting at first, but was soon under and able to rotate and kick down.

The water seemed cool at first, but warmer and a bit cloudier than last week. There was a noticeable thermocline now at 28'. We made it out to the large boulder past the point before Patrick signaled the turn. On the way back, I swam close to the drop-off a few yards from the wall. I noticed a line from the rock crusher 'super structure', and I'm not sure where it goes (could be to the car or to the crusher itself): I may inspect this line on our next dive. We made it back with a thousand PSI to spare, so made our way to the plane. Surprisingly, the water was clearer here than along the wall--and a bit warmer at the same depth--even though there were several groups of students in the water now. At the culverts, I noticed I was getting a bit light. My air was around 600 PSI now, and the lighter tank was making me float a bit. I grabbed a small rock and tucked it in close, and we made our way back to the entrance.
