Diver's Notes

After diving Barracuda Shoals, we spent the afternoon feeding grapes to iguanas and plunging into the ocean on the halyard swing. Many tried their hand at the beer keg rodeo, but only Tom was able to stay on for the mandatory 8 seconds to call a win.

We then cruised back to Close Mon Reef for our first night dive of the trip! This turned out to be a very navigable reef as the island provided a wall-like coral structure on which we could easily find our way. Perfect for a night dive!

I did not bring my camera along, as I really wanted to focus on the dive itself. First, the light I borrowed from Joseph was great: red light that can be switched over to a white light (which I found too bright, even on the lowest setting, as it washed out everything in its path). The red light setting was perfect, and seemed to not disturb the marine life.

We dove in at dusk, so this was more of a transition dive than a night dive. We were out before I witnessed any luminescence, but I did see a lot of sea cucumbers (some very large), including hundreds of tiger sea cucumbers stretching several feet out from under their protective coral homes.

The close of our second day on sea, and my first day of diving. It's been fun, but Jen hasn't been with me all day due to her toe injury. She's determined to come with us tomorrow, though!
