Diver's Notes

Today's dives are focused on Jen's preparation for her Dive Guide checkout dive on Sunday. We laid out a plan for a 30-minute dive: from the entry near the gazebo to the rock crusher using a bearing; from the rock crusher to the bus using the line; from the bus along the road bed to the platforms and to the plane if time permitted; back to the entry point. We decided in the dive that the route from the platform to the plane would be a bit long, so cut it short from the platforms back.

Upon entering I noticed the visibility was very poor, which worsened still once we hit the thermocline at around 27'. I also noticed that I was far too heavy, but I had no weight in my pockets. The 120cf steel tank is much heavier than the al80's I typically dive with, especially since I was only wearing board shorts and a dive skin. We missed the rock crusher, but near the wall I was able to turn Jen due north and came to the structure in short order. From there we followed the line to the bus where I did a quick swim-through while Jen waited above (as we planned). From the bus we made our way to the first platform, then to the next two, then back to the entry point.

After the dive, we conducted a quick walk-through of the dive plan, had lunch, and donned our equipment for dive #2.
