Diver's Notes

Tagged along with Billy on another OW training/check dive. This time, I'm doing both days, just to see the entire process from the observer's POV. This class is a bit bigger, with 5 total students and 2 instructors. Billy is assisted by Eric today, and Eric took the lead for most of the dive, while I corralled the students and generally watched for their safety, swimming behind the group mostly.

The water vis has dropped dramatically since being out here 2 weeks ago, and the thermocline has dipped down to 24' (and even there it is 81 degrees instead of high 70's).

We swam to the bus, performed mask clearing and regulator removal skills. Then swam a short circle tour over boat, Al's car, hoops, etc.

Saw fewer fish this time out. Not as many fry schools either, and the ones we did see have been thinned. Fish are twice as large as before.

Dove with 80's today (short dives), so I wore 2 lbs. Billy put in an additional 2 lbs just to have in case someone needed the extra weight. I was heavy (funny, since before last month I was diving with 10-12 lbs).
