Diver's Notes

Our last dive of the day turned out to be the best. The Elbow Reef "fingers" are known for their macro-life, and though I didn't spot anything notable, we did see a much healthier reef system than earlier in the day. Each finger is flanked by sand channels, which still had an abundance of sand after most of it was stripped away during Hurricane Irma.

Large elkhorn coral perched on top of the fingers reached for the surface, flanked by sea fans and other gorgonians. Fishes of various species swam about the reef, while a nurse shark slumbered under a reef overhang on the sea floor. A large channel clinging crab grazed in the daylight, a site typically reserved for night divers.

Satisfied with the climatic end to our day of diving, we returned to Quiescence, showered and made our way to the Conch House for dinner. I was very tired after a long hiatus from exercising, which made for a good night sleep at the bunkhouse.
