Diver's Notes

Jennifer McDonald, Eric Moorefield, et al.

Eric was still with his students on their surface interval when Jen and I decided we would go ahead of them and wait near the anchor. This gave us about 5 minutes at the wreck before the rest of the divers joined us. The two groups split up again, grabbed their wreck reels and started their exercise. This time, I had told Jen I would keep her in site but likely would fall back a bit. I did not want her distracted from the students, and I did not want to try and keep up! I took the time to video two large schools of Atlantic spadefish, several large barracuda and check out other small marine life on the wreck. I did manage to video some 'action shots' of the students doing their work as well. Tom found a nice swimthrough on the starboard side near the stern: If I am ever on this wreck again, I will check it out myself.

After around 30 minutes, the ambient light started to quickly fade. Shortly after, we ascended up the anchor line, and noted a dramatic temp change of 3 or 4 degrees at around 30 feet. Jen and I managed to squeeze out a 45 minute dive before surfacing. Back on-board, I noticed a large cloud bank on the western horizon that the sun dipped behind. I'm fairly certain that the sun setting behind this thunderhead was the reason for the drop in light. It was now dusk and we wouldn't make it back to shore before dark, but we enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the water, even with the sun mostly behind the clouds.
