Diver's Notes

Our third dive for today was lead by Patrick. He decided a counterclockwise route starting from the same entry point near the gazebo to the plane, back to the bus via the roadbed, and back to the entry point. This proved to be an easy-to-navigate circuit and although we made it back in 28 minutes--the goal was 30 or less--we all agreed that it felt like we were rushing through the dive. Patrick decided that for his plan, he would nix the bus and head back for the entry point after the first couple of platforms.

We continued the conversation on land. We were set to go out once more for Jen's dive plan (would be dive #156), but this time, even though Jen found the pipes, we turned wide and missed the crusher. After some backtracking and failed attempt to locate it, we decided to surface. My mask had completely fogged over--a problem I had had with the first two dives but it seemed to get progressively worse--giving me nearly zero visibility. There was additional cloud cover at this time that also did not help with visibility. It quickly became clear that including the rock crusher in Jen's dive plan was probably a bad idea, so we surface-kicked back to the entry point where I ended my day of diving while the others decided to attempt a direct route from the entry point to the bus. They returned successful and Jen had a new dive plan for Sunday.

For me, I decided diving with 120cf steel tanks, while convenient for air consumption, was not ideal for buoyancy. I plan to try 100cf steel tanks next time: my air consumption has greatly improved since losing weight, and a 100cf steel tank contains more than enough air for a typical hour-long ocean dive.

The mask I wore today was the Scubapro Frameless mask. As much as I want to like it, I continue to have fogging issues (though I have scrubbed it many times) and the fit is terrible for me. I believe I am going to retire that mask and return to my Genesis Panview for now. (I just wish it was black, not bright yellow!)

I saw my first turtle in the quarry!
