Diver's Notes

I awoke early to overcast skies. It was Gypsy Divers last Quarry Social of the year and I wanted to try out my new Super Nova fins. I had not taken them to Key Largo since they didn't pack quite as compact as the ScubaPro Go fins.

Nearly on site, I realized I had left my cash at home. I found an ATM only to become aware I had also left my debit card. A search of the internet informed me the new owners accept credit cards, so I returned to a very busy quarry. Several groups were there learning to dive or training for one specialty or the other; Gypsy Divers had a good showing with several new divers, none of whom I recognized. Joe was there with some students, and Lauryn was hosting. I chatted with her a minute and was going to join a group dive, but decided I would go in solo.

I waded into water that was slightly warmer than the air temperature, with visibility of 10 feet or so near the entrance. My first line was along the shore from the entrance near the old shelter to the basketball court and on to the shallow airplane. After a quick swim-through, I followed the roadbed to the bus, past the two training platforms, down the line to the rock crusher and back. I then followed the opposite line to the deep airplane, then to the sail boat and back to the training platform at the roadbed. I exited from the same point I entered, and warmed up while helping set up for lunch.

The fins took a bit more power to kick, which I expected, but they felt better than the Seawing Novas I had tried a few years ago.
