Diver's Notes

South of Soufriere and just north of Petit Piton is the Superman's Flight dive site. I had been told by several veterans of St. Lucia diving not to miss this one. And they were right!

Dave spotted an orange frogfish propped up on the top of a coral head, making an excellent opportunity for someone--with a better camera than mine--to get a great shot. I believe that someone would be Gary, but as of this writing, I have not seen any photos.

We came across a large pod of rock lobsters of various sizes just before we found ourselves zipping along with the current at a pretty good clip. This lasted for 15 or so minutes before we settled back into a nice slow drift. Like many of the other sites, this one was abundant with corals, sponges, sea plumes and other gorgonians, hydriods, feather stars and tube worms. The reef here seemed to be the healthiest yet, and I found myself taking video and shots of the formations without a central subject, though I still managed to shoot a few banded shrimp when the opportunity arose. Schools of chromis and a few scattered seargent majors swam above the reef. We completed our dive and surfaced among a thick floating mat of sargassum seaweed.
