Diver's Notes

Our third dive today was at a site named Trou Diable, a creole name for 'Devil's Hole'. Most of our dive was spent at or above 50', but we dipped down at times to 70'. The reef bottomed out at around 100'.

On a sandy patch I found a nice peacock flounder, and fired off a short video before I got photo-bombed by Vince! I'm still not sure how he fit between my camera and the sand, but he found a way. The flounder was not amused.

Other notable finds included a southern stingray--about 3 feet in length and 18 inches across, a large brain coral formation, black durgon, and a scorpionfish. Dave interacted with a speghetti worm, which were abundant on most of our dives. The name fits the description well: several speghetti-like feeding tentacles stretch out among the reef from tubes where the body of the worm hides. The tentacles are elastic and will quickly retract when disturbed. I witnessed a rock hind get uncomfortably close to a moray, and a lettuce slug inch its way across a coral head--another first for me!
